Don’t Leave Money On The Table

📅  6th July 2017 | Selling

Overheard at a well known Flower Show whilst walking past a certain stand…

“The usual price is £25.99 but the for today at the show you can have it for only £11.99”.  “It” was an ornamental vase you would put in your garden for those of your with an inquiring mind. Sounds a bargain doesn’t it but why give such a huge discount on the first morning of a show?….bargain basement deals are normally offered in the final hours of the last day…and it’s not as if there were similar items on the next door exhibition stand.

I don’t know whether a sale was made but if I were the potential buyer, I’d think twice before accepting that sort of offer. A 50% price reduction is huge and I’d be concerned as to the quality of the item for sale. From a business point of view it doesn’t make sense either because:

  1. A discount was offered when there was no need to do so
  2. The profit margin would have taken a real hit – and no business can afford that!
  3. It’s weak selling
